The 2024 International Hope Cup Mathematics Invitational Global Peak Challenge concluded successfully, fostering the development of mathematical talent.

The highly anticipated 2024 Hope Cup International Mathematics Invitational Global Summit recently concluded successfully in Macau. Organized by the International Hope Cup Mathematics Invitational and co-organized by the Asia International Mathematical Research Association and the International (Macau) Institute of Academic Research, the event received generous sponsorship support from AO YOU WEN FANG, who provided the competition’s souvenirs.

The awards ceremony was held August 8th at the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf Convention and Exhibition Centre. Notable attendees included Mr. Cheong Hung Fat, Deputy Director of the Macao Science Center; Mr. Kou Chin Meng, Representative of the Director of Policy Research and Regional Development of Macau; Ms. Tai Un Fong, Acting Director of the Training and Quality Management Department at the Macau Government Tourism Office; Mr. Chan Pou Sam, Member of the Municipal Services Advisory Committee, Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macau; Mr. Chan Man Hou, Assistant to the Office of Lo Choi In, Legislative Assembly of Macao; Mr. Lam Tou, Representative of the Chairman of the Macao Productivity and Technology Transfer Center; Ms. Wong Un Cheng, Vice President of the General Association of Chinese Students of Macao; Mr. Lao Chi Pang, President of the Peking University Macau Culture Communication Association; Ms. Ao Man In, President of the Nanjing University Macao Students’ Friendship Association; Ms. Wong Chi Sun, Vice President of the Macau Student Union of Beijing Normal University; Ms. Ho U, Principal of Xin Hua School; Ms. Choi Pou Chu, Person in Charge of AoYou WenFang Company Limited; Mr. Chu Hoi Tong, Manager of AoYou WenFang Company Limited; Ms. Zhou Yue, Chairman of the International Hope Cup Mathematics Invitational; Dr. Kou Seng Man, President of the International (Macau) Institute of Academic Research; Mr. Chan Hou, Vice-President of the Asia International Mathematical Research Association; Mr. Chan Cheng Fei, President of the Macao Scholar Development Association, along with leaders from participating schools, team coaches, experts, and scholars, totaling approximately 1,000 attendees.

Ms. Zhou Yue remarked that the Hope Cup was established in 1990, and over the past 30 years, more than 30 million students have participated in this competition. The event has expanded to over 500 cities across numerous countries, making it one of the largest and most influential extracurricular activities globally. Through years of effort, Chinese students now rank among the top in international mathematics competitions, frequently winning gold medals. She emphasized that the purpose of mathematics competitions is to broaden horizons and challenge students to surpass their current environments. The students’ journey in mathematics has only just begun, and today’s experiences will serve as a foundation for their future success.

Dr. Kou Seng Man expressed his gratitude for the support and participation of everyone involved, extending thanks to the relevant educational departments in Macau, the organizers, co-organizers, as well as the teachers and students who participated in the International Hope Cup Mathematics Invitational Global Peak Challenge. He noted that the successful hosting of this competition was made possible through the collective efforts of all parties. Dr. Kou also mentioned that the Macau SAR Government is currently implementing the “1+4” moderately diversified development strategy. He believes that hosting mathematics competitions can help cultivate talent for key industries such as healthcare, modern finance, high technology, conventions and exhibitions, commerce, and culture and sports.

Lao Un, a student from Lou Hau Secondary School who won the gold medal, expressed his honor in having the opportunity to represent Macau in this international mathematics competition. He noted that this experience not only broadened his horizons but also enriched his mathematical knowledge. It allowed him to recognize the gap between himself and the world’s top standards, and he understands that only through continuous effort can he reach the peak. Similarly, Lao Chon Hang from Pui Ching Middle School, who also won a gold medal, shared that this was his first time participating in the Hope Cup. He was thrilled and happy to have represented Macau, winning an individual gold medal and securing third place in the team category for the junior high school division. He found the competition’s problems challenging, and the speed competition truly showcased the spirit of teamwork. He expressed gratitude to the organizers for hosting such international mathematics competitions, which not only expand one’s vision but also provide opportunities to meet and exchange ideas with students from various countries, forming lasting friendships. He also thanked his teachers for their guidance and hopes to participate in more international competitions in the future, bringing further honor to Macau.

The award ceremony presented a total of 489 individual awards and 11 team awards. The competition results are as follows:
